Aerospace components & MRO

The aftermarket is where aerospace supply chains make their money. Original equipment is often sold at thin margins to secure decades of spares and repair work, and the installed base therefore matters more to a supplier's economics than current production rates. Demand is driven by flight hours rather than by new orders, which makes the segment less cyclical than platform manufacturing but tied closely to fleet utilisation.

Defense MRO differs from commercial in one important respect: fleets stay in service far longer. Aircraft designed decades ago remain operational, requiring parts whose original suppliers may no longer exist, and sustaining them creates specialised businesses in reverse engineering, requalification and life extension. Depot capacity and skilled technicians are the practical constraints, and both have tightened as commercial and military demand compete for the same workforce.

Coverage follows sustainment and depot contracts, component supply agreements, capacity investment, certification and approval decisions, and supply chain disruptions affecting castings, forgings and specialty alloys. Aftermarket revenue is rarely broken out in headline contract announcements, so the durable part of a supplier's business is often the least visible.
