Electronic systems & avionics
Coverage of mission computers, avionics, defense electronics and the qualification barriers that shape the segment.
Why this segment matters
Defense electronics occupies an unusual position between commercial semiconductor economics and military requirements. Components must survive temperature extremes, vibration and radiation, remain available for decades, and pass qualification processes that commercial parts never face. That combination produces long product lifecycles, high switching costs and margins that are typically better than platform manufacturing.
Obsolescence management is a business in itself. Platforms flying for forty years depend on components whose commercial equivalents disappear in five, creating sustained demand for lifetime buys, requalification and drop-in replacements. Export control regimes add a further layer, restricting which suppliers can serve which customers and reinforcing regional supply chains.
Coverage in this feed follows platform integration contracts, avionics upgrade and cockpit modernisation programmes, component qualification announcements, export licensing decisions and supply chain disruptions. The segment is less cyclical than platform work but also less visible, since content is usually reported as part of a larger programme rather than on its own.
