Missiles & precision strike
Coverage of guided missiles, precision munitions and the constrained supply chain that builds them.
Why this segment matters
Precision strike sits at the centre of modern force structure, and stockpile depletion has made replenishment a procurement priority across air, land and naval domains. Unlike unguided munitions, these weapons combine seekers, guidance electronics, solid rocket motors and specialised energetics, which means production rates are gated by whichever component is scarcest rather than by final assembly capacity.
Solid rocket motors have proved the most persistent constraint. Consolidation among Western suppliers over the past two decades left few qualified producers, and qualifying a new source is a multi-year process involving extensive testing. Seeker components, radiation-hardened electronics and specialty propellants raise similar barriers. These qualification requirements are what make the segment defensible for incumbents and difficult for new entrants, whatever the level of demand.
Coverage here tends to follow multi-year procurement authorisations, foreign military sales approvals, production rate increases, new entrants attempting to qualify as second sources, and test milestones for next-generation programmes. Watch for the gap between contract award and actual delivery: in this segment the two can diverge by several years.
