How defense catalysts work
Defense investing is unusually driven by scheduled events. Unlike consumer sectors where demand shifts gradually, defense revenue turns on discrete decisions: a programme award, a budget authorisation, an export approval, a tender closing. Knowing when those decisions are due is often more useful than forecasting their outcome.
The catalysts tracked here fall into several categories. Earnings releases set the reporting rhythm and are the most predictable. Contract and tender deadlines mark points where competitive positions resolve, drawn from public procurement notices. Programme milestones — test events, production decisions, certification points — carry the most information but slip most often. Policy and budget dates apply across the sector rather than to individual companies.
What distinguishes this calendar is what happens after the date passes. Each event is checked against public sources and marked as confirmed, missed or delayed, with a short factual record of what actually occurred. Defense programme schedules slip routinely, and a calendar that never records misses gives a misleading picture of how reliable announced dates really are.
